Music therapy for seniors with Alzheimer’s is possible with a device such as an iPad.
Hi, we are working on helping all of our residents have a personal playlist on an iPod with their favorite music to listen to. I sent out an email last night with a YouTube video:
This is the shorter version asking for any help getting old iPods to help us with any headsets like you see on the airlines… I have emailed two friends that work with United to see if they can help us find donations of headsets also for our residents. If you have anything to donate that would be wonderful.
Also, we ask you for your help to give us the best 15 songs to start for your loved ones favorites. We want to customize the iPods for each person to help them remember their younger years.
Please reply to this email and we will keep your list in the residents file and grow it anytime you send more songs. Any help to get this moving forward from all of you is important to the success. We really appreciate you help. Malou and the Applewood Team
I just spoke with my friend, Michelle Bognar. She will stop by and pick up an iPod with a headset on her way to Applewood.
Songs that mom would enjoy:
Spanish Eyes – Al Martino
I Love You More and More Everyday – Al Martino
I Love You Because – Al Martino
The Way Old Friends Do – ABBA
Chiquitita – ABBA
Fernando – ABBA
Dancing Queen – ABBA
Voulez Vous – ABBA
Wooden Heart – Elvis Presley
You Gave Me a Mountain – Elvis Presley
An American Trilogy – Elvis Presley
Moody Blue – Elvis Presley
Good Luck Charm – Elvis Presley
Massachusettes – Bee Gees
To Love Somebody – Bee Gees
Words – Bee Gees
One – Bee Gees
El Paso – Marty Robbins
My Woman, My Woman, My Wife – Marty Robbins
Take It Easy – The Eagles
Heartache Tonight – The Eagles
Peaceful Easy Feeling – The Eagles
In the City – The Eagles
Thanks again for doing this. I think that mom will really enjoy it. I will send some more songs as I think of them.
Best regards,
I am so thrilled Applewood has taken this on. My co-worker’s son in law worked on the making of Alive Inside for 3 years.
We played some tunes for my dad, Joe Holub, last weekend and he responded well, danced a little and was way more talkative. It warms my heart. I am flying out tomorrow on Frontier and will snag as many headsets as I can.
What a great idea! I will order an iPod for my mom and load it with some of her favorite music. Great, great idea. Thanks for all you do.
