You might be looking at the title of this post and thinking what in the world are we talking about??
Story Time!
Every month we have a Care Cafe for families who have a loved one with memory care needs. This group is facilitated by, Dale Carter, she is an incredible person with so much insight into the challenges you can have when caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
In the world today we are facing a pandemic, times where we must stay at home and change our “normal”.
A quote from Dale explains a portion of this new normal best:
“Last eve I led our monthly Care Cafe (virtual) for family members with loved ones in memory care. After it ends, I always sit quietly & reflect on the themes I heard. This time I realized it was what I didn’t hear that was so striking.
People talked about their coping strategies during the stay-at-home but no one was freaking out or overly stressed.
The #1 coping strategy was their dogs. Introductions included showing us their dogs sitting beside them“ 🙂
Here at Appelwood Our House each one of our homes has a dog. These furry companions bring so much joy to both the residents and staff and we are seeing that more and more with the COVID-19 pandemic. We love our furry friends and the smiles they bring!
SO!
We are asking you! post and share your furry friends photo or video! We want to spread the smiles to both our residents and our community!
