Here’s what you can do in each Family Portal:
- Make a Payment – Pay your bill online anytime. It’s simple and secure.
- Share a Request or Concern – Want to share a thought or ask about care? We’re here. You can send a message through the portal. Every note is read and passed along to the right person.
- Read Recent Messages – Missed a call or a meeting? The portal keeps track of updates and notes from our team so you can catch up when it works for you.
- Send a Thank You – If a team member has helped your loved one in a special way, you can send a thank-you message right through the portal. These messages mean a lot to our team members.
- Get the Newsletter – We post new photos and updates every month, so you can see what’s been happening and what your loved one’s been up to.
These portals are meant to be open. Come by anytime, whether you’re checking in or just want to feel nearby.
Memory Care Homes Referral Program
At Applewood Our House, we are grateful for the trust families place in us. Many of our new residents come to us through recommendations from physicians, social workers, discharge planners, and other satisfied families.
That’s why we created our Memory Care Homes Referral Program — a way to say “thank you” to those who help connect seniors with quality, compassionate care in our small residential homes.
Refer a friend or family to our assisted living and memory care services and if they move in and are with us for 30 days, you receive 50% off one month of services for your loved one.

Helpful Hints for Moving
When new residents move into your loved ones room, an adjustment must always take place. We provide reorientation for new residents, as well as current residents. This means at times, clothes will be exchanged and assigned beds will be confusing for some residents.
Please remember to label all of your loved one’s personal items. This could include sheets, pillow cases and even shoes. All items are left in the common areas at some point and another resident may pick that item up thinking it belongs to them. When proper labels are on an item, we can return it to the rightful owner.
Although, we would love to accommodate all requests, some are just not realistic with the number of residents at each Applewood Our House location. These requests may include ironing clothing, dry clean only clothing, and ironing sheets. We ask that you bring in wash and wear clothing. The residents are more comfortable in casual clothes on a daily basis. We do understand that you may want your loved one in a special outfit for outings with family. We will accommodate your requests for dressier attire for these occasions.
What to bring when you are helping your loved one move to an assisted living home… you will need to make sure everything is ready and in order, please remember…
- SSN Card
- ID
- Insurance Cards
- Medical Power of Attorney
- Paperwork – Get together and sign paperwork as well as with the homes Administrator
- Seven Days of Clothing – These should be marked with your loved one’s name on them
- Personal Hygiene Items – This includes items like shampoo, conditioner, Depends, etc.
- A Personal Touch – Bring items to make your loved one’s room feel like home (pictures, blankets, etc.)

Financial Solutions for Assisted Living and Memory Care
At Applewood Our House, we want to help. We all have plans on how we want our lives to work out, but circumstances sometimes change, and we have to adapt.
We help seniors and their families overcome financial obstacles when considering assisted living and memory care. We understand your challenges and hope to give you choices and confidence with your decisions surrounding senior care and options.
Our Rates are $6500 – $7500 for a companion room and $7800 – $8800 for a private room. The move-in fee is used for the maintenance of the room after and before someone moves in. Paint, carpet, music, TV, mood color light because we want the best for each resident and family.

Veteran’s Aid and Attendance Benefits
If you are a US veteran or the surviving spouse of a veteran, you may be eligible to receive up to $1800 per month to help pay for personal care such as assisted living. This benefit is a federal benefit provided through the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.

There are many benefits to living in a companion option; the first is that the friendship and companionship with another individual can turn out to be a strong bond and healthy experience for stimulation and growth in this new environment. The secondary benefit is the financial cost saving.
Medical Tax Deductions for Seniors
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provides a deduction for medical expenses including the cost of care in a nursing home, personal care home or assisted living community or similar institution if the primary reason for being there is to get medical care. IRS Publication 502 defines a typical situation as one in which a person is unable to perform at least two activities of daily living (eating, bathing, dressing, etc.) without substantial assistance from someone else.
